Stake General Terms and Definitions

These Betting Rules (the “Rules”) govern the acceptance of bets, the settlement of winnings, dispute resolution procedures, provisions specific to individual sports, and all other relations between Stake and its customers in Nigeria. The Rules apply to bets placed through the Stake website, the mobile platform, and any retail betting outlets where applicable. Registration on the platform, and the act of placing a bet, constitutes acceptance of these Rules in full. Customers are advised to read the Rules carefully before using any betting services offered on the platform.

The following definitions apply throughout these Rules:

  • Bet: a wager placed by a customer on the outcome of a sporting or other event, accepted by Stake in accordance with these Rules;
  • Outcome: the final result of an event, market, or selection upon which a bet has been placed, as determined by official sources recognised by Stake;
  • Customer: a registered, verified individual who holds an account and places bets through the platform;
  • Bet Cancellation: the voiding of a bet by Stake, resulting in the return of the original stake to the customer’s account balance, carried out in the circumstances set out in these Rules;
  • Regular Time: the standard scheduled duration of a sporting event, excluding extra time, penalty shootouts, or any additional periods, unless stated otherwise in the rules of a specific market.

General Terms

Registration on the Stake platform is open exclusively to individuals who meet the minimum legal age requirement applicable in Nigeria and in their place of residence. By creating an account, each customer confirms that participation in online betting is permitted under the laws governing their jurisdiction, and accepts full responsibility for this determination.

Each account is intended for personal use only, by the verified account holder. Account sharing, operation of multiple accounts, or permitting a third party to place bets on a customer’s behalf is not allowed under these Rules.

A bet is considered accepted once confirmed by the Stake system and reflected in the customer’s account balance. Settlement of bets takes place once the official outcome of an event has been confirmed through recognised sources. Stake reserves the right to review, delay, or adjust settlement where the integrity of a result is in question.

Certain bets may be declared void, in full or in part, where:

  • a pricing, trading, or technical error has occurred;
  • the event or market was suspended, abandoned, or significantly altered after the bet was placed;
  • there is evidence of fraud, collusion, or an attempt to manipulate the outcome of an event;
  • the bet was placed after the outcome was already known or determinable;
  • the bet was placed in breach of these Rules or any applicable policy.

Winnings arising from valid, settled bets are credited to the customer’s account balance and may be withdrawn subject to the verification and payment provisions set out elsewhere in these Terms.

Stake monitors betting activity across its platform to detect suspicious patterns, irregular stake movements, and conduct that may indicate collusion or other improper attempts to influence the outcome of an event. Where such activity is identified, Stake may suspend affected bets, withhold payment, report findings to relevant sporting bodies or regulatory authorities, and take any other action permitted under these Rules.

Stake reserves the right to refuse, limit, or cancel any bet at its discretion, including where a customer’s account is under investigation, where an error has affected the odds or market presented, or where acceptance of the bet would place the platform in breach of a legal or regulatory obligation.

Stake’s liability in connection with any bet is limited to the value of the stake placed and any winnings properly due under these Rules. Stake is not liable for losses arising from circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including technical failures, connectivity issues, or delays in official result reporting.

These General Terms may be amended periodically to reflect changes in regulation, platform functionality, or operating practice. Continued use of the account after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. Customers are encouraged to read the Rules regularly to remain informed of any changes.

General Betting Rules

Stake Limits and Odds

Minimum and maximum stake limits are set by Stake and may vary according to the sport, event, market, or customer account status. These limits may be adjusted at any time without prior notice, and Stake reserves the right to refuse any bet that exceeds the applicable limit for a given market. Odds displayed at the time a bet is placed reflect the terms under which that particular bet is accepted. Stake reserves the right to adjust odds for future bets at any time, including in response to changes in event circumstances, market conditions, or trading decisions, without affecting bets already confirmed.

Bet Acceptance and Settlement

A bet is considered final once it has been accepted and confirmed through the Stake system, and the corresponding stake has been deducted from the customer’s account balance. Once confirmed, a bet cannot be amended or withdrawn by the customer, except through the Cash Out feature where available. Settlement of bets is carried out according to the official result of the event, market, or selection concerned, as determined by recognised sporting bodies or official broadcast sources. Where an event is decided under conditions not anticipated by the original market rules, Stake determines settlement in line with the general principles applied across its betting services.

Void Bets and Event Postponements

Bets may be declared void where a pricing or technical error has occurred, where the event is postponed, abandoned, or rescheduled outside the timeframe recognised by Stake for that market, where the bet was placed after the outcome had already become known, or where the bet otherwise breaches the rules governing the relevant market. Where an event is postponed and rescheduled to take place within the timeframe set by Stake for the relevant competition, original bets generally remain valid unless stated otherwise in the specific sport rules.

Winnings Calculation

Winnings are calculated based on the stake placed, the odds confirmed at the time of acceptance, and the final settled outcome of the bet. Any applicable deductions, including those related to taxation where required under Nigerian law, are reflected in the final amount credited to the customer’s account.

Cash Out and Auto Cash Out

The Cash Out feature, where offered, allows a customer to settle a bet prior to the conclusion of an event, at a value determined by Stake based on current market conditions. Availability of Cash Out, the price offered, and any restrictions applied to specific markets or events are determined solely by Stake and may be withdrawn or adjusted at any time. Auto Cash Out allows a customer to set a target value in advance, at which the system will attempt to execute a Cash Out automatically. Execution is not guaranteed and depends on market availability at the relevant moment.

Bookmaker Rights

Stake reserves the right to suspend betting on any market or event, restrict the acceptance of further bets, and take any other action considered necessary to protect the integrity of its betting services.

Accounts, Deposits and Withdrawals

Account Registration and Verification

Account registration with Stake requires the submission of accurate, complete, and current personal information, including full name, date of birth, and contact details. Each customer is permitted to hold only one account. The creation or use of duplicate accounts, whether by the same individual or through the use of shared devices, payment methods, or household details, constitutes a breach of these Terms and may result in the suspension or closure of all associated accounts.

As part of standard compliance procedures, Stake conducts identity verification, commonly referred to as Know Your Customer (KYC) checks, to confirm the age, identity, and, where relevant, the source of funds of its customers. Verification may be requested at registration, prior to a withdrawal, or at any point during the lifetime of an account, and may require the submission of identification issued by a recognised government authority, proof of address, or payment confirmation documents.

Account Security and Prohibited Activity

Customers are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their login credentials and for all activity conducted through their account. Any suspected unauthorised access or security breach should be reported to Stake without delay. Stake applies a range of monitoring and fraud prevention measures across its platform to detect irregular account behaviour, unauthorised payment activity, and misuse of bonus offers or promotional terms.

Deposits and Withdrawals

Deposits may be made using the payment methods made available on the platform, subject to any minimum or maximum limits applied to each method. Withdrawal requests are processed once the associated account has passed the required verification checks and any applicable bonus wagering conditions have been met. Stake may apply withdrawal limits per transaction or over a given period, and may request additional documentation before releasing a payment, particularly where the value or pattern of a withdrawal differs from a customer’s typical account activity.

Investigations and Account Actions

Stake reserves the right to suspend, restrict, or close an account, to void associated bets, and to withhold pending withdrawals where an investigation identifies fraud, duplicate account activity, provision of false or misleading information, abuse of bonuses, suspicious betting patterns, or any other breach of these Terms. Funds held in an account under investigation may be withheld until the review has concluded. Where payment verification cannot be completed to Stake’s satisfaction, or where a payment method is found to be invalid, unauthorised, or linked to fraudulent activity, Stake reserves the right to decline the withdrawal, reverse the associated deposit, and take any further action required to protect the platform and its customers.

Responsible Gambling

Stake supports customers in maintaining control over their betting activity and recognises the importance of preventing gambling related harm. A range of tools is available within account settings to help customers manage their use of the platform responsibly.

Available controls include:

  • deposit limits, allowing a customer to set a maximum amount that can be added to the account over a daily, weekly, or monthly period;
  • betting limits, restricting the total stake value a customer can wager within a selected timeframe;
  • loss limits, capping the amount a customer is permitted to lose over a given period;
  • session time reminders, notifying a customer of the duration spent using the platform;
  • self exclusion, allowing a customer to suspend account access for a fixed or indefinite period, during which betting activity cannot resume;
  • temporary account closure, sometimes described as a cooling off period, for customers who wish to step away from betting activity for a short, defined time.

Customers who feel their betting activity may be becoming difficult to control are encouraged to make use of these tools or to seek independent support. Organisations such as GamCare and Gamblers Anonymous provide confidential guidance and assistance to individuals affected by problems related to gambling. Customers in Nigeria concerned about their own gambling behaviour, or that of someone close to them, are encouraged to seek assistance from a qualified health professional or a relevant support organisation.

Anti-Money Laundering

Stake operates a comprehensive Anti-Money Laundering (AML) programme designed to prevent the platform from being used for money laundering, terrorism financing, or other financial crime. This programme reflects obligations commonly applied across the regulated gaming industry and is reviewed on an ongoing basis to reflect evolving regulatory standards.

As part of this programme, Stake applies identity verification procedures, commonly known as Know Your Customer (KYC) checks, to confirm the identity of each customer before significant withdrawals are processed. Verification may include confirmation of identity documents, proof of address, and, where required, evidence of the source of funds used to fund an account.

Transaction activity across the platform is monitored on an ongoing basis to identify patterns consistent with money laundering, structuring, or other suspicious financial conduct. This includes review of deposit and withdrawal volumes, payment method usage, and account behaviour that deviates from typical patterns.

Where suspicious activity is identified, Stake reserves the right to:

  • request additional verification or documentation from the customer concerned;
  • restrict or suspend account access pending the outcome of a review;
  • freeze or withhold funds connected to the activity under investigation;
  • report findings to the relevant financial intelligence or regulatory authority, where required by law;
  • permanently close an account found to be in breach of applicable anti-money laundering obligations.

Customers are required to cooperate fully with any verification request made in connection with these obligations. Failure to provide requested information within the timeframe specified may result in continued restriction of the account.

Privacy & Management of Personal Data

Stake collects and processes personal data provided by customers during registration, identity verification, and ongoing use of the platform. This includes, without limitation, name, date of birth, contact details, payment information, and records of account activity.

Personal data is processed for purposes including account administration, identity and payment verification, fraud prevention, compliance with legal and regulatory obligations, customer support, and, where consent has been given, marketing communications. Customers may withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time through account settings or by contacting customer support.

Data collected is stored using secure systems and retained for the period required to meet legal, regulatory, and operational obligations. Where personal data is transferred to service providers, payment processors, or group entities located outside Nigeria, Stake applies appropriate safeguards to maintain an equivalent standard of protection.

Cookies and similar tracking technologies are used across the platform to support account functionality, security, and analysis of site usage. Customers can manage cookie preferences through browser settings, though disabling certain cookies may affect platform functionality.

Customers have rights in relation to their personal data, which may include the right to access information held, request correction of inaccurate data, request deletion where legally permitted, and object to certain forms of processing. Requests relating to personal data can be submitted through official Stake support channels and will be addressed in accordance with applicable data protection principles.

Personal data is shared with third parties only where necessary for account verification, payment processing, fraud prevention, regulatory reporting, or as otherwise required by law. Stake does not sell personal data to third parties for independent marketing purposes.

Security

Stake applies industry standard technical measures to protect customer data and account information across its platform. Data transmitted between a customer’s device and Stake’s servers is protected using encryption protocols designed to prevent interception or unauthorised access.

Account information and payment data are stored on secure servers protected by firewall systems, access controls, and continuous monitoring for unauthorised activity. Service providers and payment partners engaged by Stake are required to maintain comparable security standards when handling customer information on its behalf.

Technical safeguards are applied throughout the platform; however, no method of transmission over the internet can be guaranteed as completely secure. Customers are advised to use strong, unique passwords, avoid sharing account credentials, and maintain up to date security software on any device used to access their account.

Customers are responsible for the security of their own login credentials and for any activity carried out through their account where access results from insufficient precautions on their part. Suspected unauthorised access should be reported to Stake support without delay, so that appropriate protective action can be taken.
